These tools help keep people safe, healthy and comfortable when lying down, sitting, standing, moving, and or when they are transferred. Some examples of mobility tools are wedge-shaped pillows that allow for easy breathing, or walkers and canes that have pouches for easy storage. The Interagency Working Group on Assistive Technology Mobility Devices In 2003, President Bush announced the formation of the Interagency Working Group on Assistive Technology Mobility Devices. This group is composed of the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, the Secretary of Labor, the Commissioner of Social Security and the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The goal of the group is to identify Federal, State, and local government agencies and tribal programs that help people with disabilities obtain the mobility devices they need for education and employment. It seeks to improve coordination among these programs and train counselors, service providers, and people with disabilities.
USA Tech Guide USA Tech Guide is a web guide to wheelchairs and other assistive technology. On their site you can read reviews on different types and brands of wheelchairs, electric scooters, wheelchair cushions and standing devices.
Wheelchair Net Wheelchair Net is a virtual community for people who share an interest in wheelchair technology. Their website provides reviews on mobility equipment. There is also a database of resources, reprints of articles and a discussion area.
