COVID-19 Statement:
Hawaii Foodbank’s mission is recognized as an essential public service, and we are doing everything we can to effectively execute our operations while maintaining a safe and healthy environment. In addition to our own operations on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, we are working closely with Maui Food Bank, The Food Basket on Hawaii Island and our statewide network of more than 425 food partner agencies to continue serving our communities across Hawaii – wherever they may be.
With orders to enforce social distancing and sheltering-in-place, we’ve requested Gov. Ige to recognize emergency food distribution as an essential public service and allow for the movement and operations of our entire network of food banks and food partner agency staff, volunteers, and people accessing emergency food assistance.
We’ve also asked Gov. Ige for support of the National Guard as we face a new, challenging double bind – a dramatic increase in demand for food coupled with sharply declining numbers of volunteers upon whom we rely on to inspect, sort, pack and distribute food.
